Khulu and Nkosi came to skate Jozi , stayed at Mitches place, partied like prawns and yes - they must be part alien to skate like they do...
Age?
The funny thing is we are both 19.
Hometown?
Durban, city of parties!!!
Natural or Goofy?
(Nkosi) I am natural, but prefer to skate goofy. (Khulu) Right foot forward is the only way.
Sponsors?
(Nkosi) Boogaloos. (Khulu) Iron Fist and Lakai through Revolution.
When did you start skating?
We started in grade 4 (2000) but was also into surfing, body boarding, scooter and believe it or not BMX... So I guess at that time we were just experimenting with everything. We only started taking it seriously in grade 6 (2002)... But we were still unsure.
What got you into it?
A friend of ours in primary school invited us to his house for the first time and he had a skateboard. Iit seemed to be fun, so we thought we should give it a try and see how it goes...
I heard your family is some kind of royalty... tell us about that.
That’s a really long story... But if you really want know, ask us in person. Really its a long story.
You like to rock em’ tight jeans or do you like to keep it fresh and roll it gangsta?
(Khulu) Well I can pull anything off if I really wanted to, but skinnies, let’s be real, are for women not men. (Nkosi) I agree with him, but they do work for some people... like Yann.
Any ladies in your life? If so how many?
(Khulu) At the moment I’m solo. Gather the women at night. (Nkosi) well I have got 14 on my leash. Lol.
How long have you been rolling for?
Well we’ve been rolling for a good 8 years.

Who are the local holmies you skate with?
We skate with who ever comes to gateway, but we mostly skate with Master Roshi, Evils, Mattress, Horowitz, D-Squared, G McNaughton and anyone that comes to Wavehouse...
Once again we are doing an interview with the Durban skaters in Johannesburg. What’s your guys view on the skating in Joburg vs skating in Durban?
Personally we think that the skate scene in Joburg is bigger and better, because there are a lot of skaters there and all they want to do is skate. Now in Durban, all the guys we used to skate with started fading away and are spending more time partying and getting grilled. And when the Joburg guys come down to Durban, all they’re ampt to do is skate...
Who has influenced your skating... who have you looked up to and who has inspired you guys?
Growing up, we had another brother that skated (Makhosi), and he was way better than us and we looked up to him more than any other South African pro. When he stopped skating, our progress slowed down a bit, but other SA pros came out of the blue and did some of the craziest tricks we’d ever seen. One of them being you Clint (that backside flip gap from the quarter to the big bank was insane!!!). We also had friends that where better than us that we also looked up to. And internationally, guys like Malto, Mo Mo, O’neil, P-Rod, Koston, etc...
Do you like to throw them lines down, or hammers or both?
Definitely both... There is nothing as sick as a mad line then still doing a crazy trick down a rail or a set of stairs.
Favorite trick?
(Nkosi) I can’t really say I have a favorite trick, because every time I learn something new, I want use it to my best advantage. (Khulu) I don’t have one. Plain down!!!
Now we know you are 3 brothers that skate together (Dlamini had to stay in Durban to work while this interview was being shot in Jozi). If it weren’t for you all skating together do you think you’d still be as into your skating as you are now?
Not a chance... We basically do everything together. But we did stop for a year, and Dlamini carried on with out us and pushed himself and when we saw how he had progressed we got back into it and just pushed and pushed.
What beats you feeling? Who / what bands do you listen to?
Mostly hip hop, but also anything that’s worth listening to!
If you had to stop skateboarding, where would your life lie?
This is Simple: We Will Never Stop Again!!!

What’s your ideal setup?
(Khulu) Iron Fist board, wheels, Indy trucks, Reds bearings. (Nkosi) Anything that’s worth skating and Indy trucks.
Best park in SA and best street spot that you’ve skated?
Monte, Revolution parks. But we’ve had enough of the parks. We feel any street spot we find.
What kills your session in a park?
The kids man. Nothing is worse than them thinking the park is their own personal playground!
How important do you think the media is in South African skateboarding, like with videos and mags, etc?
Extremely important. With out the media, how will there ever be growth in the skateboarding industry!? And not only that, but also to make skaters, and anybody that comes in contact with Session or AV, aware of what’s going on in the SA skate industry: who is doing what, who is killing it out there and everything else?!
Do you think working on projects like this interview and your recent 48 hours in session Magazine pushes you to skate harder than usual or would you say it’s a good reflection of your everyday skateboarding?
It definitely pushes us to skate harder because spots are limited in SA, and when we have to skate a spot that has already been destroyed, we push ourselves to get something better.
Who’s helped you along the way?
The Iron Fist guys, Travis Anderson and our maffia friend Dave Morrison, they have hooked us up with the whole skate package while growing up. MUCH RESPECT. Thanks to all the other skaters that have helped us out to.
What makes skateboarding happen for you? I mean what do you love the most about skateboarding?
That feeling of just watching your board suck up to your feet. Like that front foot catch of the tre flip. Having to learn new tricks each day and putting them to good use.
You guys both work full time. How do you keep on killing it in your skating with a full time job?
Well, we watch skate DVD’s at work and that keeps our mind on learning new tricks. When we get our lunch break we make the most out of it.
Future plans?
Reach professional level and get a chance to go overseas to skate with all those pros and hopefully even win some comps out there.
Any last words or thanks before we end this interview?
Thanks AV for giving us this opportunity. Thanks to Iron Fist, Revolution, Boogaloos and all the peeps that have helped us out through out our skating career. Much Love, Peace out...
