| Red Bull Manny Mania 2010: Two Wheels Take over the World |
9 July 2010

Announcing the Worlds’ biggest manual skateboard contest
This year Red Bull Manny Mania is searching across the globe for the most skilled technicians on skateboards. Any amateur can sign up to participate in the international skate events, taking place in 25 countries across six continents. In the Durban national qualifier taking place on 18 July, those neighbourhood skaters will compete for a ticket to prove their technical skills at the Red Bull Manny Mania World Final in the city that doesn’t sleep but always shreds, New York. At stake is one spot in the Red Bull Manny Mania Pro event for one South African, skating against the manual masters.
For the last 3 years, thousands of participants have all put their two wheels to the ground with the Red Bull Manny Mania events across the U.S. and U.K. This year the event is taken to a global scale, from America to Europe to Africa to the Middle East, skateboarders will attempt to balance on two wheels and hope their technical trickery will earn them a coveted spot in the August 21st contest in NYC, where the best will be chosen.
The winner from each national contest will compete in the World Final in New York– judged by a panel of renowned skaters and industry experts. Durban’s Gateway Mall will host the South African Red Bull Manny Mania contest at the Wavehouse Skate Park on 18 July 2010.
Boasting some of the best professional skateboarders in both the contest and video scene, the Red Bull Manny Mania Pro event has become part of the legendary Skateboard Weekend in New York and has brought such greats to the city as Eric Koston and Chad Muska, manual experts like Joey Brezinski and Brandon Beibel and hot newcomers like last year’s USA winner Eli Reed and 2nd place finisher Mike Mo Capaldi.
The event is all based off the manual skate trick – where Red Bull Manny Mania got its name from - a balancing act that is a must-do in any new skateboarder’s skill set and yet can be made extremely difficult with limitless combinations. Who will join the best this year? Who will be the chairman of the United Nations of skate? Red Bull Manny Mania 2010 in Durban gives an opportunity for one skater to battle their way from their neighbourhood streets to the biggest stage in the world to join the skaters they admire – and who knows, maybe even beat them.

| The 1st Annual L.A. Skate Film Festival |
21 May 2010

International Skate Film Festival Announces its Debut in California
The first annual L.A. Skate Film Festival was created to focus on the filmmakers, directors and artists within Skateboarding, the lifestyle that cultivated the idea of “brand movies” and “lifestyle documentaries.”
For the first time Los Angeles, the birthplace of Skateboarding, will host this International skate film festival dedicated to the best films and the people behind them. The L.A. Skate Film Festival will focus on eight featured categories including: U.S. Film, International Film, Independent Film, Documentary, Skate Shop Video, Emerging Filmmaker, Commercial and Classic.
Behind the scenes awards will also be given out in the categories of Best Photography, Best Editing, Best Soundtrack, Best Intro and Best Skit.
AV Skateboarding will be representing South Africa in the International catagory... stay tuned here to see how we do! Any other SA filmmakers who would like to be involved shoud check out the information below.
Submissions are now open via http://www.withoutabox.com or the festival’s website. Selected submissions will be sent to a panel of judges including skateboarding legend C.R. Stecyk and French filmmaker Fred Mortagne.
A Film Festival without an Academy composed of some of the best filmmakers and most influential people in the industry would be nonsense. Therefore, the Festival has been gathering – and will keep on doing so in the future – the most pertinent and influential personalities who, by their expertise, knowledge of the industry and the way they perceive the different stages of skateboarding will keep the Festival on its toes whenever creativity is concerned.
Part of the Academy members’ role will be to nominate the judges and define the criteria of judgment amongst other activities.
Ultimately, the Academy serves as the foundation for the Festival long-term and global vision.
